IMPORTANT: How publication works in HORTUS
HORTUS is a moderated platform.
This is one of its defining features and one of the reasons it differs from generic storage or social tools. Users can prepare resources, project content, metadata formats, and other items, but publication may require moderation or validation before the record becomes visible in the appropriate discovery surface. The logic is structured so that quality, metadata completeness, permissions, and consistency can be checked before broader dissemination.

| 1. Draft and prepare | You create or edit the record, attach files or links, define metadata, and shape the object before wider exposure. |
| 2. Submit to moderation | When the record is ready, you send it into the governed workflow so another role can validate or approve it. |
| 3. Moderate or validate | A moderator or other authorised reviewer checks the content, metadata, permissions, and overall quality of what you submitted. |
| 4. Publish | Once approved, the item appears in the relevant public or shared area of HORTUS and becomes available for discovery, sharing, and reuse. |
| 5. Disseminate | Published items can then be exported, shared, related to projects, and in some cases handed off to external destinations such as Zenodo. |
