Audience and roles

HORTUS is public-first, but capabilities expand after sign-in and role activation.

Role What you can usually do Typical chapters
Visitor Browse published projects, events, experts, marketplace items, News, public support content, and a large part of the public shell. Ch. 1-3, 9
Signed-in user Manage a profile, receive notifications, use messaging, save favourites, follow searches, and work in personal workspace areas. Ch. 1-6, 9
Contributor / researcher Create resources, propose metadata formats, create project/event/news content where permitted, submit items to moderation, and track lifecycle status. Ch. 3-8
Maintainer / project lead Steward project pages, manage membership, organise events, curate linked content, and work with moderated contribution queues. Ch. 3, 5-9
Moderator / administrator Approve or reject pending items, supervise quality gates, and keep user-facing content consistent and supportable. Ch. 7, 9

Important after registration

  • Creating an account does not always activate contributor rights immediately.
  • After registration, send an activation request to service-desk@itserr.it.
  • Use that email to request the role and permissions you need, such as contributor, researcher, or project-related rights.
  • If a creation or moderation-related button is missing, verify your role activation before assuming that the feature is unavailable in your environment
