Browsing Mode

Browsing mode allows users to directly explore texts available in the Arabic, Greek, and Latin corpora without manually entering a query in the search bar. This mode represents an alternative consultation method to Searching, while sharing many of the same functionalities already available in search results, such as the ability to add notes or initiate new searches from a text selection.

On the platform homepage, on the right side of each language section (Arabic, Greek, Latin), a set of buttons represents the different available Sources for the selected corpus. By clicking on one of these buttons, the user immediately accesses the Browsing mode related to the selected Source.

Some buttons may appear disabled (greyed out). In this case, hovering over the button displays a tooltip indicating:

“This source is not yet available”

The structure of Browsing mode changes according to the selected Source. The main types are described below.

(e.g. R-LXX)

These Sources follow a hierarchical structure based on books and internal text divisions.

Available filters:

• Book

List of books included in the selected Source.

• Chapter

Allows selection of a chapter within the selected book.

• Verse

Allows selection of a specific verse.

Navigation flow:

Book → Chapter → Verse

These Sources do not follow a chapter-based structure but are organized by authors and their works.

Available filters:

• Author

List of ancient authors available in the corpus.

• Work

List of works by the selected author.

Navigation flow:

Author → Work → Text

The Arabic corpus provides two different browsing structures, depending on the selected Source.

The Qurʾān follows the traditional chapter-based structure of the Islamic sacred text.

Available filters:

• Sūrah (chapters)
• Āyah (verses)

Navigation flow:

Sūrah → Āyah

These three Sources follow the same navigation logic used for Ancient Authors.

Available filters:

• Author
• Work

Navigation flow:

Author → Work → Text

Within the displayed text, users have access to the same functionalities available in classic search mode.

Text selection

Users can select single words or extended portions of text. Text selection activates a contextual menu including:

• Magnifying glass icon ( ) – starts a new search based on the selected text
• Notes icon ( ) – adds a personal note
• Dictionary icon ( ) – available only when a single term is selected

When a Source has not yet been made available by the platform, it appears disabled. The tooltip informs the user of its status:

“This source is not yet available”
